UUNET Technologies, Inc. is an international networking corporation
providing domestic and international communications and information
services to its customers worldwide.
WHAT DOES UUNET DO?
UUNET's electronic mail and news services provide a dedicated,
accessible, and reliable facility for international electronic mail and
electronic news, including mail access to the Internet.
UUNET offers access to:
* UUCP mail
- Over 2,500 direct mail connections
- UUNET is an authorized Internet mail gateway, and can act
as your Internet mail forwarder.
- UUNET serves as the principal gateway to European, Australian
Asian, and South American UUCP sites.
* USENET news
- UUNET offers a full or partial news feed; all news groups
are offered.
- Over 1,000 news feeds
* Publicly available UNIX software and information
- Available via UUCP, magnetic tape, or 900 number
- GNU, MIT X Window System, Kermit
- Berkeley 4BSD (not requiring AT&T license)
- Bug fixes and files from Sun, Pyramid, SCO, and Microsoft
* NSFnet access, for AlterNet customers with appropriate authorizations
UUNET offers the following services:
* AlterNet, a public TCP/IP Internet without traffic type restrictions
* UUCP mail gateway to Internet sites and other UUCP hosts
* Domain registrations at no charge to subscribers, and a nominal
charge to non-subscribers
* Customer support 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Eastern Time) Monday through Friday
* Operator support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

WHEN IS SERVICE AVAILABLE?
UUNET's facility is staffed and operational 24 hours a day, seven days
a week.
WHICH ACCESS METHODS ARE AVAILABLE?
* From within the United States:
- Dial your closest CompuServe network access number (local
from thousands of US cities). You are then connected
to UUNET via the X.25 public data network. No registration
with CompuServe is necessary.
- Direct dial modem at our San Jose, CA; Palo Alto, CA;
Berkeley, CA; Los Angeles, CA; Boston, MA; Austin, TX;
Dallas, TX; Chicago, IL; New York City, NY; Portland, OR;
and Falls Church, VA hubs
- 800 number
- 900 number for anonymous access to our archive
* Connection Methods
- UUNET supports all standard modems
(V.32 / V.32bis / V.22bis / Bell 212A / Bell 103)
- For those of you with UNIX platforms, you only need the
standard UNIX UUCP programs. For those with non-UNIX
platforms, software is available through commercial vendors.
* Modem Types
- UUNET uses Telebit T2500 and WorldBlazer modems
- We support Telebit PEP / 9600 V.32 / V.32bis / 2400 / 1200
/ 300 bps

be unavailable due to other work. Our facility is
operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and uses an
uninterruptible power system.
AVAILABILITY UUNET is the best connected news machine in the country.
All news groups are offered.
ACCESSIBILITY UUNET is an authorized Internet mail gateway as well as
serving as the principal gateway to European, Australian,
Asian, and South American UUCP sites.
ARCHIVES UUNET has an extensive archive of publicly available
UNIX software.
HOW DO I SUBSCRIBE TO UUNET?
We have several subscription options for users with different needs.
The options and pricing are described below. Call us and ask for the
General Information Packet on UUNET and AlterNet. Fill out the UUNET
Subscription Form and send the original in to us.
Subscription options are:
* Regular uucp
Our basic service provides electronic mail and news connectivity for
$36 per month plus your connect hours. Charges for connect hours
are listed below.

* Low Volume Users
All sites are entitled to three connect hours per month for an annual
fee of $300, paid in advance. Customers may connect via local dialup,
remote dialup, or the CompuServe remote network (CompuServe charges
are included in the fee). Discounts do not apply.
In addition, customers may use UUNET's 800 number for an additional
$180 per year (total $480, paid in advance). Discounts do not
apply.
Restrictions
- Sites exceeding three connect hours will be charged at
regular UUNET rates for the entire monthly usage, not
just the excess. This includes the $36 administrative fee.
- The yearly fee is non-refundable and will not be prorated
for partial months.
- This offer is only available in the continental USA and may
be withdrawn at any time.
* TCP/IP
A TCP/IP account is available only if you are an Internet site. Total
cost per month is $55, which includes the $36 account fee plus a
$19 TCP/IP service fee.
* Foreign
Sites not in the USA, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the US Virgin Islands
must apply for a foreign account. The cost for a foreign site is
US $432 per year, prepaid to UUNET Technologies. Foreign sites are
responsible for their own communication connection to UUNET. Discounts
do not apply. Sites in Canada and India should contact UUNET in
those countries.
